The Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Monday, cancelled the bail of former Mines Director V D Rajagopal, in the illegal mining case of the Obulapuram Mining Corporation.
The court agreed with the CBI's counsel argument that Rajagopal's release at this juncture might hurt the investigation.
The CBI counsel also feared that Rajagopal might influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence if he is released on bail.
Reacting favourably to the views of the CBI counsel, the state High Court cancelled Rajagopal's bail granted by the CBI court.
It may be mentioned here that the CBI court had granted bail to Rajagopal on 15 December. However, a few hours later, following a petition moved by the CBI, the court stayed Rajagopal's release on bail till 19 Dec.
Later, on 16 December, the High Court
stayed the bail, following a petition moved by the CBI.
While the main accused, former Karnataka Minster Gali Janardhan Reddy, and his brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy were arrested on 5 September, Rajagopal was arrested on 14 November by the CBI, in the OMC illegal mining case registered on 7 Dec 2009.
Suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi and OMC Director B Rajasekhar were also arrested in the case.
While Srilakshmi was granted bail, all other accused were lodged in the Chanchalguda Central Prison. (INN)
