BRS working president K T Rama Rao today expressed his grief over the alleged treatment meted out to ASHA workers by the Telangana police.
He went to the Osmania Hospital and visited the ASHA workers who were injured in the police attack on Monday. Speaking with the media outside the hospital later, he alleged that the police had attacked the workers who merely demanded of the State government a hike in their salaries as promised during the Congress' election campaigns.
He said that the Congress had promised to increase the salaries of the workers to Rs 18,000 within six months of coming to power, but even after completing one year now it had not fulfilled the promise.
About the alleged police attacks, he said, "What happened on Monday was pure police harassment of innocent ASHA workers who were merely protesting for their livelihood." He asked how the police could drag women in public, and said that the daughters of Telangana would never forget this insult by the Revanth Reddy government.
He said that the ASHA workers had served the people of the State without concern for their own safety during the Covid pandemic, and that everyone was shaken after seeing the videos of the government's crackdown on them.
He assured the workers that he would be with them and fight on their behalf in the Assembly.
