Telangana IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao today offered financial assistance to Punjab's international chess player Mallika Handa.
The minister offered Rs 15 lakhs to the sportsperson, as also reportedly a Lenovo laptop.
The girl is deaf and dumb, and reportedly did not get help from the Punjab government.
However she took Twitter for help, and Rao offered to help her. She came to the city from Jalandhar in Punjab on KTR's invitation. The minister welcomed the girl to his office in the city and gave her the Rs 15 lakhs.
He also presented Mallika with a laptop, and expressed hope that she would win more medals and laurels for the country. He asked the Punjab government and union minister Anurag Thakur to give a job to Mallika.
Mallika has won several international awards including a chess championship for the deaf in Armenia in 2016.
