Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today inaugurated the Pedda Amberpet Kalan urban forest, located in Rangareddy district's Hayathnagar mandal, along with Forest and Environment Minister Indrakaran Reddy and Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.
During the event, organised as part of the seventh phase of the state's Haritha Haram and Pattana Pragathi programs, Rao planted a sapling on the occasion and urged the people of Telangana to also contribute to the TRS government's re-greening efforts.
The minister added, "Besides this, we are making a big effort to expand green cover across the state. Our government is spending a whopping Rs 5,900 crore to carry out a re-forestation program in which we want to plant as many as 220 crore plants in Telangana. We have already been able to expand the green cover of the state to 28% from the earlier 23.6%. We want to provide a pollution-free and healthy environment to our future generations and are continually working to realise this dream. If we are to succeed, however, the people of the state too need to bolster our efforts with mass participation in plantation drives and reforestation efforts."
Highlighting the other achievements of the TRS regime, he stated, "Our government has been able to bring much growth and development to Telangana in just seven years. Our irrigation projects, for instance, have made water access a reality across rural Telangana. Also, schemes like the Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima, which pushed the Modi government to launch its own Kisan help program, have been launched to help the state's agrarian community. Even during the pandemic, a period in which revenues fell drastically, our government has remained committed to continuing all our welfare programs."
KTR then reiterated his plea to the public to take part in the Haritha Haram, and Palle and Pattana Pragathi programs.
The urban forest inaugurated by him currently has 40,000 young trees spread across 437.24 hectares. It also has 15 gazebos to enable visitors to enjoy its lush greenery.
At another event in Rajanna Sircilla district, the minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of a gram panchayat office in Gambiraopeta's Rajapeta area.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "New ration cards will be distributed to all eligible beneficiaries from July 5. Further, the Aasara pension for those above 57 will also be disbursed to beneficiaries soon."
