Noted environmentalist Erik Solheim today appreciated the Telangana government for the increasing greenery in the state including around Hyderabad.
Norway-based Solheim said on Twitter that Hyderabad topped in green cover, with an increase of 48.66 sq km from 2011 to 2021.
"Congrats Hyderabad! The city Ranks #1 in Forest Cover. There is an increase of 48.66 sqkm of forest cover in Hyderabad between 2011 and 2021. Well done Telengana and India!" he tweeted.
Reacting to this, Telangana IT and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said that the credit went to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
The state government had taken up the flagship Haritha Haram program to expand greenery upon the initiative of the Chief Minister, and offered funds in the state budget to increase greenery, Rao said.
The official machinery was involved in the Haritha Haram program, Rao added.
Solheim is the President of the Green Belt and Road Institute.
