IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, along with Roads, Buildings, and Housing Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, today
inaugurated two-bedroom houses, built as part of the TRS government's program to provide free high-quality housing to the poor, in the Racharla Boppapur region, in Telangana's Sircilla district.
The ministers inaugurated the units and handed over the keys and related ownership documents to the beneficiaries during the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao stated that the government was offering permanent shelter to the poor of the state to enable them to lead their lives with self-respect.
"The poor, under the rule of the KCR government, are getting free houses. The poor can access good housing without having to pay bribes. Besides providing housing, as part of a series of flagship programs which we have implemented to provide essential services to the most vulnerable in the state, our government will also offer 4.7 lakh ration cards to economically disadvantaged families," he said.
The minister added that though lands were expensive and the state had faced huge revenue losses, the state government was continuing to offer the free 2 BHK units to the poor as it had promised it would. He claimed that no other state in the country was implementing similar programs or providing housing facilities at the scale that the TRS regime was.
Lauding the initiative, KTR expressed his appreciation for Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's visionary policies, and called the latter the "CM who sought to see only happiness on the faces of the poor".
Both KTR and Reddy then conveyed their wishes to the new homeowners and suggested that they maintain the houses in a clean way and work to keep their surroundings green as well.
During their interaction with the beneficiaries, they also assured them that Sircilla would soon be able to get waters from the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, and promised that the works for an indoor stadium, to be built at the cost of Rs 1 crore, would be started in the region soon.
