Ministers K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao today started motor pumps at the Ranganayak Sagar project. Siddipet lands received waters after decades at Chandapur, just 2 km away.
The ministers gave a jalaharati first, and waters were then lifted from a Kaleshwaram site at a height of 90 m to the Ranganayak sagar site at a height of 490 m.
The government spent Rs 330 crore on the project, which was built in 2,300 acres of land acquired from farmers. The project is part of the efforts to irrigate thousands of acres of parched lands in Siddipet and Siricilla districts. Harish Rao and KTR represent the Siddipet and Siricilla segments respectively.
The pumps started will lift 3 TMC waters to irrigate the lands. The project will also fill up 400 lakes and checkdams through its left and right canals.
Later, Harish Rao said that a long-cherished dream had come true. The combined state had neglected the area turning people into migrant labours, but now things would change, he predicted.
KTR said that Harish Rao and he were lucky to inaugurate the sacred project. The project waters would irrigate the Kondapachamma Sagar farmlands in the district, he said. He also said that the dream of irrigating 1.10 crore acres would come true in the near future, and expressed hope of seeing a green revolution in the state.
KTR added that all other projects would also be completed on time to reach the government's target of 1.10 crore acres of land under irrigation.
Marvellous work by Telengana government I salute our honourable Chief Minister and all the officials of irrigation department and the contractors.......Jaiho
