Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today vowed to cleanse the Hussain Sagar of dirt and hyacinth, and transform it into a drinking water lake.
This would be done partly using Amphibious Excavator, a vehicle brought from abroad, riding which KTR inaugurated the cleansing works.
He said that Rs 370 crores in Jaica funds were being spent for the cleansing, and that the State government had allotted Rs 100 crores more for the purpose in the budget.
"Our aim is to see that the lake is rid of dirt, hyacinth and other waste material that releases foul smell, and the machinery that we are using, the latest in the field, will ensure that," KTR stated.
He also said that 99% of works related to the diversion of effluents pipes at the Hussain Sagar were completed.
He added that de-silting works of the main canals would be complete before the rainy season, and that tenders worth Rs 29 crores had been finalized for the same.
