The Backward Class Welfare Association President, R Krishnaiah, hinted on Wednesday at the possiblity of launching a political party to fight for the rights of the backward classes.
Krishnaiah demanded that the centre introduce a 50% reservation for backward classes in elected bodies.
Talking to media persons after participating in a program, the BC leader urged the state government to take an all-party delegation to the centre to prevail upon the issue.
Political awareness in backward classes could not be created without providing 50% reservation in the elected bodies, Krishnaiah pointed out.
Criticizing the Congress party for allegedly choosing Chief Ministers from the Reddy community only, Krishnaiah said that he was considering setting up a political party to protect the interests of the backward classes.
He said that the decision on launching a new party would be announced before the Assembly elections in 2014.
The BC leader called upon all the people belonging to backward communities to fight unitedly for gaining political power in the state.
