Deputy leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today announced a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the kin of each of some of the farmers who committed suicides in Telangana, on behalf of the Komatireddy Prathik Reddy Foundation.
It may be mentioned here that on May 7 of this year, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, MLC and deputy leader in the Telangana Legislative Council, had initiated the process of financial assistance by paying Rs 1 lakh to Bhukya Chandu in the Khammam district.
The Komatireddy Partheek Foundation has been providing financial assistance to the poor to support their medical expenses, and has also been extending ambulance facility on the Nalgonda-Narketpally-Hyderabad road where fatal road accidents occur frequently. The foundation has also been providing financial assistance to the poor to help with their higher education, especially those pursuing MBBS and other professional courses.
Addressing the media on Monday, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy appealed to the employees of the government and the private sectors who come from agricultural families to donate either a day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund or in any other form.
Ponguleti also demanded that the State Government bring in a new agriculture policy to rescue the farming community which had been badly hit by debts. He also demanded that both the Central and the State governments rescue the drought-affected farmers immediately.
Stating that the previous Congress-led UPA regime had provided Rs 72,000 crores as debt relief to the farmers in the country, Ponguleti demanded that the NDA government offer a similar package for debt relief to the farmers in Telangana. The need of the hour was giving moral support and confidence to the farmers, irrespective of political affiliations, he said.
