Hyderabad | 5th October 2015
The Opposition Parties in the Telangana Assembly all joined forces today on the issue of the loan waiver for farmers in one go.
The Parties, barring the MIM, jointly gave a call for a Telangana bandh on October 10, protesting what they have termed the TRS government's callous attitude towards the farmers' suicides.
The main Opposition Party the Congress, the TDP, the BJP, the CPI and the CPM gave the call for the bandh.
Initially, following the suspension of almost all the Opposition members barring the MIM MLAs from the Telangana Assembly today, the TDP and the BJP proposed a bandh tomorrow (October 6) itself. The Congress leader in the House K Jana Reddy, however, felt that it would be better to organize the bandh after touring the districts over the problems of the farmers.
Therefore, it was finally decided to have the bandh on October 10, and the TDP and the BJP accepted this proposal.
The Congress will be conducting a "Rythu Bharosa Yatra" in the districts from October 6. The TDP has decided to organize burnings of the effigies of the government at all Assembly constituency headquarters.
CPI and CPM leaders Sunnam Rajaiah, Venkateswarlu and Ravindra Kumar demanded again that the government waive the farm loans in one go, as that alone would help the farmers and stop the suicides.
