Kodela Booked For Appropriating Assembly Furniture
A case was filed against the former Andhra Pradesh Speaker over appropriating the State Assembly furniture and keeping it in his house and his son's showroom.
The Tulluru police filed a case on Saturday against former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao in connection with appropriating furniture belonging to the State Assembly and keeping it in his house and in his son's showroom.
On Friday, Assembly officials searched Sivaram's showroom in Guntur - the Gautam Hero showroom - and identified and made an inventory of furniture belonging to the Assembly.
Officials estimated the worth of the appropriated furniture found at the showroom to be Rs 1 crore.
Based on a complaint lodged in the matter by the Section Officer Eswara Rao, a case was filed against Kodela under IPC Sections 409 and 414, and against his son Kodela Sivaram for being in possession of government property and utilizing it in his showroom.
The former Speaker's attempts to defend his actions, as having stemmed from a lack of security for the furniture, and his subsequent offer to repay the amount valued by the government, earned widespread criticism.
