K Chandrasekhar Rao, TRS chief and prime mover of a month-long civil and political turmoil in the state of Andhra Pradesh - without whom the people of AP would never even have realized how different they are from one another - has said that political leaders should not cause rifts among citizens.
Speaking to the media after Chidambaram declared in Delhi that he never went back on the Telangana matter, KCR said that even after the Home Ministry made a crystal-clear statement that a separate state of Telangana would be formed, it was not right for parties to show their aggression and ego. Most parties are clearly in favour of Telangana, said the TRS leader, and it would be made clear in the Jan 5 meeting.
KCR went on to say that several of his friends from Seemandhra have declared that once Telangana is formed, they would worship his photograph even if the people of Telangana won’t – because they would be grateful to him for having given them their own state capital.
He said the earth won’t split if states are separated, and cited the example of Haryana and Punjab. No one should stretch things till they snap, the politician said. According to him, both the regions are soon to live as neighbours, and that peace and wisdom should prevail.
Supporters of the TRS, over the past one month, have pelted stones at malls, burnt buses, wantonly destroyed other public and private property, attacked movie sets, banned the screening of movies of film stars whose family members aired opinions that didn’t match those of the TRS, and in general, have been seen as stretching matters miles beyond their elasticity.
