The Telangana unit of the BJP today demanded that the state government immediately withdraw its decision to sell its properties to fund future expenses.
State Vice-President of the party N V S S Prabhakar urged the state government to convene an all-party meeting on the issue.
Speaking to the media, he asked how the state government, which did not have land to give to the Dalits of the state, had land enough to sell to fund its "ostentatious spending".
Referring to the statement of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao that Telangana was the seed bowl of the country, he alleged that the state had truly become a hub for seeds albeit spurious ones. He claimed that there were hardly any cases booked against those accused of selling spurious seeds in the last seven years.
Prabhakar's attack comes days after TPCC official spokesperson G Niranjan also
lashed out at the Telangana government for the proposal to sell its lands.
Niranjan had argued that the government had no "moral right" to sell the government lands in the state, as it was merely a custodian of the lands, which needed to be preserved for the use of future generations, too.
He had also pointed out that the government was claiming that it was unable to provide free double bedroom houses to the people as promised on the pretext that vacant lands were not available, but was now resorting to selling lands.
One wonders what call the TRS regime will finally take on the matter.
