Union Minister Bandi Sanjay today responded to the students' agitation at Hyderabad Central University (HCU) over the Kancha Gachibowli land issue.
Condemning the State police's actions against the students, Sanjay described the lathi charge as brutal.
Speaking to the media, he said that every section of the Telangana society was disturbed by the media footage of the police crackdown on the students and videos showing female students being dragged away by the police.
He also called the detention of the students inhumane, and asked what authority the police had to enter the HCU and "detain" students simply because they opposed the sale of the university land.
He claimed that all these actions had created a terrifying atmosphere on the university campus.
Sanjay also alleged that the controversial land was being levelled with JCBs under the cover of night, and compared the act to theft.
Accusing the Congress government of attempting to sell the 400 acres of "university land" to sustain its rule, he said that the government would eventually sell all State-owned land.
He accused the Congress government of being more anarchic than the previous BRS administration, and demanded an immediate halt to the sale of the "HCU land", and action against the police officers responsible for the lathi charge.
Bandi Sanjay also asked why the chairman and members of the Education Commission remained silent on the issue, suggesting that they were complicit in the alleged sale of the "university land".
He said that the BJP would fully support the students' agitation, and that Telangana did not need a government that ruled by selling public land.
BJP MP Etela Rajender also spoke out against the alleged land sale, accusing the Revanth Reddy government of selling the "HCU land" to pay off debts.
