Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today announced that he would make a statement soon hiking the social welfare pensions in the State.
Addressing the public meeting at Suryapet, the Chief Minister promised an increase in the pensions, and said that he would announce the quantum of increase in a few days.
KCR criticised the Congress leaders for making an electoral promise of Rs 4,000 in pensions to widows and senior citizens if their party was voted to power, and alleged that the party was misleading the people to come to power.
"When elections come, new beggars come and tell lies to the people. Don't believe their words. The Congress leaders say that they will give an old age pension of Rs 4,000. Are they giving Rs 4,000 pension in the Congress-ruled States? As the Congress is a national party, it should be a unique policy across the country. How can a party that does not give Rs 4,000 pension in the States it is already ruling, give it in Telangana?" the Chief Minister asked.
Also showering sops on Suryapet district, the Chief Minister announced that he would be sanctioning Rs 10 lakh for each of the 475 Gram Panchayats in the district, and Rs 25 crore each for the four municipalities, including Huzurnagar, Tirumalagiri and Neraducherla, from the Chief Minister's fund.
