MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday refuted allegations of WhatsApp chats with Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is an accused in a money laundering case.
Some screenshots of WhatsApp chats claimed to be between the MLC and the alleged fraudster discussing money laundering went viral on Wednesday.
Chandrasekhar is said to have claimed in the past that he had chatted with Kavitha several times.
The MLC categorically denied that she had any contact with Chandrasekhar, and said that the chats that were circulating on the social media were completely fake.
"The anti-Telangana forces who are unable to digest the growing popularity of the BRS and are unable to face its president K Chandrashekar Rao politically are creating the fake chats with help of some media houses and YouTube channels. The circulation of these fake news is a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the BRS," Kavitha said.
Terming the screenshots of the alleged chats going viral as a conspiracy, she said that someone had circulated them on the social media and within minutes BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao swung into action and wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India.
In addition to this, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind had also shared them, to malign the image of the BRS, she claimed.
She lamented the degradation of ethics in some media houses which telecast the fake videos without fact-checking, and said that these media houses had become pawns in the hands of the opposition parties.
