In a major development and setback to the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh, Narne Srinivasa Rao, the father-in-law of Junior NTR, joined the YSR Congress Party and met the party's president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday.
Speaking to mediapersons later, Rao said that he had joined the YSRCP to strengthen the hands of Jaganmohan Reddy, and would work hard for the party.
Asked whether his close relationship with the NTR family would not be affected by his decision, Rao said, "That is a family matter while this is a political issue, and they do not need to overlap."
He also said that he did not ask for any seat and was not sure if he would be given one, but that he would abide by the decision of the leadership.
Earlier, NTR's grandson and the son of former union minister Daggubati Purandeswari joined the same party along with his father Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, who has himself had a long political innings.
