Former minister Anam Ramanarayan Reddy today confirmed that he and his brother Anam Vivekananda Reddy were joining the TDP because the construction of the new capital city Amaravathi and the development of Andhra Pradesh were possible only with ruling party.
There had been persistent rumours that the Anam brothers were shifting loyalties to the ruling TDP. The announcement put a stop to the rumours.
Ramanarayan Reddy also clarified that they were not joining the TDP for seeking any posts.
"We have decided to join the TDP keeping in mind the future of the State. We fought on a number of issues while working in the Congress for decades. But the vote bank of the Congress has plummeted to 2.8%. We are ready to take any responsibility if we were offered in the TDP," he said.
Ramanarayan Reddy said that after the united State's bifurcation, the Congress was not able to come out from the problems it was facing, leading to their decision.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly given the green signal for admitting the Anam brothers to his party.
