Accusing 'disloyal' ministers of defiling the statue of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy by staging a
dharna at the Punjagutta Crossroads on Sunday, supporters of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday performed "purification rituals" by washing the statue with milk.
The protestors, all of them staunch supporters of Jagan, criticised agitators who had participated in the protest on Sunday for conveniently forgetting the benevolence YSR had showered on them and attacking the Kadapa MP.
Addressing the gathering, former MLC H A Rahman challenged minister for health Danam Nagender to resign from his Assembly seat and contest again under chief minister K Rosaiah's banner. He said that even Danam knows that such a move would relegate him to wilderness.
Rahman added that he would willingly contest against Danam, in the constituency of his choosing, and win the election under the YSR banner. The former MLC added that Danam is now aligning himself with YSR detractors just to save his chair.
Rahman told the gathering that apart from the many public welfare schemes envisaged and initiated by YSR, including Arogyasri, housing schemes for the poor, Pavala Vaddi and Abhayahastham the former chief minister had also provided reservations for minorities.
