Former minister J C Diwakar Reddy on Monday sought the support of leaders from different political parties for the formation of Rayala-Telangana.
Talking to reporters in the Assembly premises, Diwakar Reddy said that Kurnool and Anantapur districts of the Rayalaseema region should be merged with the Telangana state. He said that the decision would resolve several problems that might crop up in future.
He predicted that there would be a strong fight between Rayalaseema and Andhra for the new capital for Andhra Pradesh if a Rayala-Telangana is not formed.
Diwakar Reddy claimed that leaders belonging to Congress, BJP, CPI and TRS were in favour of Rayala-Telangana, but that they were not speaking about it in public, fearing criticism.
He also thanked Union ministers Kishore Chandra Deo and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy for speaking in favour of the Rayala-Telangana proposal.
He clarified that he has no vested interest in seeking Rayala-Telangana, claiming that except for a house in Hyderabad, all his businesses are based in his home town, Anantapur. (INN)
