Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao today said that Hyderabad would soon be the first city in the country to treat 100% of its sewage, with efforts being made to complete the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) works taken up at a cost of around Rs 1,000 crore, by March/April.
Addressing a meeting after inaugurating the Kothaguda multi-level flyover at the Botanical Garden junction, the minister said that construction of 31 sewage treatment plants had been taken up under the SNDP, and that deadlines had been fixed to complete them in a stipulated period.
Similarly, under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), so far over Rs 8,000 crore had been spent on various projects, of which 20 had already been completed and the remaining 11 projects would be completed quite soon, KTR said.
"Plans are also afoot to ensure that the drinking water requirements of the city are met for the next 50 years. And 3,000 electric buses are going to be introduced in the city in a bid to encourage a pollution-free public transportation system," the minister added.
Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chevella MP Ranjith Reddy, Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, GHMC Mayor G Vijayalaxmi, GHMC Commissioner D S Lokesh Kumar and others were present.
