Hyderabad | 5th October 2016
Telangana Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today said that the State government was preparing for a complete overhaul of roads and other infrastructure in Hyderabad, and had estimated the overall costs to reach Rs. 25,000 crores.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the municipal administration minister said that the plan included road repair works, stormwater drain expansion, road widening, de-silting drains and other works.
The Telangana government reportedly has engaged the JayPee Group to implement the plan.
Speaking on the role of the "sluggish" pace of development works in the city over the past two years, Rao said that the government decided to make some major changes in the administrative powers given to the municipality bodies so as to expedite development. The government would soon remove the road division system under which the municipality body can operate only designated areas. From now on, the GHMC will repair all roads, and not only those that come under its limits.
He also said that all circles in the city would be decentralized and the number would be increased from 24 to 30, for smoother and swifter functioning of the municipality.
