The 7th general body meeting of the GHMC was held peacefully under the chairpersonship of Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today.

Addressed the members on the occasion, the Mayor urged them to extend full cooperation so that the meeting could have meaningful discussions and the authorities could reply to the questions raised by them.

She also urged them to bring to the notice of the Council the problems of the people without expecting political gains.

During a discussion on missing roads in the meeting, Congress corporators demanded that sanitation workers be made permanent. All parties supported that. The Mayor then said that a positive decision regarding that would be taken from a humanitarian point of view, and asked the Commissioner to speak on the matter. The Commissioner explained that it would be brought to the notice of the State government as discussed in the meeting.

When Sitaphalmandi corporator Samala Hema asked how many slip and missing roads had been constructed after the formation of Telangana State, Project CE Devanand replied that in the first phase of the missing link project, 22 works had been taken up at a cost of Rs 275.53 crore, and that 24.3 km of roads had been completed. 13 works to complete 20.57 km of roads at a cost of Rs 216.79 crore in the second phase were now in various stages of progress, he said. For the third phase, administrative sanction had been obtained for various works at an estimated cost of Rs 2,410 crore, and 50 priority roads had been sanctioned by the government at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore, he said.

He added that of the 48 works under the SRDP, 36 works had been completed, and 12 were still in progress and would be completed in the ongoing financial year.

ENC Ziauddin said that recarpeting of 812 km of roads had been taken up in seven packages under the CRMP, of which recarpeting of 777.77 km were done.

MLC Rahmat Baig said that the SNDP works in the Old City were going on at a snail's pace. He said that works worth Rs 2,000 crore had been sanctioned by the engineering project department, but that these works had not started due to lack of funds.

He also demanded immediate compensation for those who had lost their houses in the nala expansion program.
