In a bizarre incident, a moving car that was reportedly heading towards Uppal from Mettuguda today caught fire near the Tarnaka metro station. Luckily, however, no casualties were reported.
According to eyewitness accounts, thick smoke suddenly began to come out of the engine of the moving car. After that, it was just a matter of minutes before flames engulfed the entire vehicle. However, those traveling in the car at the time of the incident escaped unhurt.
The driver immediately alerted the fire department who soon reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Unfortunately, the car was completely gutted in the flames and could not be salvaged. It is being said that a short circuit in the machinery is what likely led to the incident.
In the interim, a traffic jam developed in the area, and had to later be cleared by the police.
A similar incident took place on the Telugu Talli flyover just last month. There were no casualties as the two passengers exited the car as soon as they saw the flames.
The passengers said that when they suddenly saw smoke billowing out of the car while they were travelling towards Saifabad, they alerted the fire department who then came and doused the fire.
