A special team from Nagpur today confirmed that 1,100 files were destroyed in the recent massive fire at the Nampally Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
The team made extensive efforts to retrieve data from the damaged files. However, it concluded that recovering the data would be extremely challenging.
The FSL plays a crucial role in the investigation of various cases. The lab examines different types of evidence, including blood, hair, fingerprints, weapons, bullets, documents, DNA samples and electronic devices, and prepares detailed reports based on its findings. Such evidence is vital for court proceedings and adjudication.
As a result, serious concerns have been raised about how the destruction of these files would affect the investigation and trial of ongoing cases.
