Residents of Hyderabad just got another reason to cheer. The newly operational Hyderabad Metro line will now be extended to the IT hub of Raidurg, which is also one of the most sought-after property markets in the city.
According to reports, the Hyderabad Metro Rail's Line-III that was to connect Nagole to Shilparamam will now terminate at Raidurg. In connection with this, the state government has allotted a 15-acre plot in the area to the Metro Rail Corporation for developing parking and traffic circulation facilities for the station.
With this new development, the proposed terminus at Shilparamam, which was found to be situated on a lake bed, has been shelved.
While the Hitec City stretch of the Metro line will be operational by June this year, the extra 1.5 km stretch on corridor III — Nagole to Shilparamam/Raidurg - is expected to be completed only by November 2019.
Raidurg, located in west Hyderabad, is a part of the IT corridor that also includes Hitec City and Gachibowli. The area is also in close proximity to the Nehru Outer Ring Road, enabling direct connectivity to the international airport in Shamshabad, and to other areas in the southern and the eastern zones of the city.
In the early days of its development, Raidurg gained popularity due to its strategic location and its proximity to the Old Mumbai Highway, that serves as a lifeline to the city of Hyderabad. Since the locality shared a common neighbourhood with the popular IT centres in the city, the area became a prominent employment hub for people from the sector, as also an attractive proposition for commercial leasing as several new IT parks were still under construction.
The area is fully mainstream now. In fact recently an acre of land in Raidurg fetched an astonishing Rs 42.60 crores in an e-auction conducted by the state government, which had put up six plots, measuring 15 acres each, for sale in the auction, all of which were located in the IT corridor.
