Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao demanding that he order a CBI inquiry into the gang-rape of a minor from the city.
In his letter, he asked if the CM was even aware of the incident and said that the party was hurt at the attitude of the State government on such a brutal crime.
He said that he was suspicious of the integrity of the investigation of the State police in the issue, and claimed that the police were trying to shield the accused in the case.
Stating that the names of the grandson of Home Minister Mahmood Ali, the son of an MIM MLA and the son of the State Waqf Board had surfaced in a section of media, he said that the State government had the responsibility to clear the doubts of the people in the case, and asked the CM to insist that his Home Minister and police officials issue clarifications on the issue.
He also said that the hopes of the people that justice would be delivered had been diluted due to the alleged involvement of the family members of the powers that be.
Meanwhile, former MLC of the BJP N Ramachandra Rao, former MLA N V S S Prabhakar and BJP leader Bangaru Shruti lodged a complaint to the DGP M Mahender Reddy on the issue and urged him to transfer the rape case to the CBI.
