Gangrape Tarnished Image Of World's Best Hyderabad Police: Congress
The recent attempts of the Hyderabad police to save the culprits in the Jubilee Hills teenager gangrape case were sullying the department's name, the party said.

TPCC senior vice-president G Niranjan today said that though its citizens were feeling proud of Hyderabad becoming an international IT hub, the recent increase in the "vicious" pub culture was bringing a bad name to the city.
Speaking to mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan, Niranjan said that the Hyderabad police was regarded as among the best in the world. But the recent attempts of the police to save the culprits in the Jubilee Hills gangrape case were sullying the department's name, he said.
The details given by the city's Commissioner of Police in Tuesday's press meet were nothing new as all the details were the talk of the town for the last few days, he said.
Claiming that a minor boy from Bengaluru was behind the organising of the event was surprising and unbelievable, he said, and added that the West Zone DCP had used his press meet on June 3 to give clean chit to the Home Minister's grandson and the son of an MIM MLA, and that in Tuesday's press meet the Commissioner Police had again given a clean chit to the Home Minister's grandson and minimized the role of the MLA's son.
The senior Congress leader asked why the CP had given a clean chit without a complete inquiry.
"Why the hurry to give a clean chit? Moreover, the CP asked for evidence to book a case against the Home Minister's grandson. Is it not the duty of the police to gather the evidence? If the public can provide the evidence, then what for they are?" he asked.
Niranjan said that the CP had claimed that the delay in providing updates took place because of the time needed to gather evidence. The required evidence was however provided by the culprits themselves by recording the heinous activity in their own cellphones and circulating it to all, to show how daring they were. Since the culprits belonged to the families of the ruling party and its ally the MIM, it might have delayed the police getting into action because of the delay in getting a clearance from the CM's farmhouse, he said.
"The CP has not disclosed in whose farmhouse the Innova was found, and how attempts were made to remove all the evidence. And why is the Home Minister not voluntarily relieving himself of his portfolio, and why is the CM not shifting the Home portfolio to someone else to create confidence among the people that an independent inquiry will happen? Though the entire nation has taken serious note of the heinous incident and the national media is debating why the CM and the MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi are keeping mum on the incident, the TRS government seem least interested in addressing the suspicions," Niranjan said.
The Congress leader also pointed out that same the MIM had led demonstrations in 1978 after the Rameeza Bi rape case which had result in 11 police firings on a single day and a curfew for about 50 days in Hyderabad.
