The process of the scrutiny of the nomination papers filed for the upcoming by-election for the Huzurabad Assembly constituency seat concluded today.
The Election Commission officials rejected 18 nomination papers.
A total of 61 nomination forms had been filed for the by-election, and so, after the rejection of the 18 nomination forms, 43 candidates have now been left in the fray.
The last date to withdraw the nomination papers is October 13, and the officials will declare the final list of the contesting candidates at the end of that day.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission is keeping a close watch on the conduct of the by-election, and has appointed special observers. The police department too has made massive arrangements to avoid any kind of violence and untoward incidents in the constituency, with 1,900 police personnel part of the security arrangements.
