Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today declared that Warangal town would be developed on par with Hyderabad, and that the government would also set up a big textile park and a special development authority to accelerate development.

Addressing the media in Warangal on Wednesday after a review of the welfare and development programs on his third day in the city, the Chief Minister declared that some 30,000 houses would be built for the poor, and that Warangal would be a slum-free city in two years.

2% of the houses would be given to ex-servicemen, he promised. He also said that the wives of ex-servicemen would get free registration of the houses they owned.

He added that a 12-storeyed police commissionerate complex would also be built.

As for the textile park, the district Collector had already allotted Rs 100 crores for it, and it would offer jobs to thousands of the youth, KCR said. Coming up in 2,000 to 3,000 acres, the park would manufacture products from cotton to garments, he added.

KCR said that his government was determined to develop the city to cater to the future needs of the people whose population may grow by 4.5 lakhs in three to four years.

He said that the lakes in the district would be revived under Mission Kakatiya, the Devadula project would be connected to the Ramappa temple tank, and the Laknavaram lake would be developed into a tourist spot.

Directing the officials to speed up Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya works, KCR said that the Mid-Maner project would be filled by next June, and Godavari waters would be supplied to four segments by April 30 this year. He also assured construction of new buildings for government offices and schools, of an outer ring road, and of a dance and music school.

The Chief Minister also said that Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu offered to help the State construct an underground drainage system in the city as part of Swachch Bharat.

Stating that Warangal would also be made an educational hub, KCR announced the setting up of a Sainik School, a Delhi Public School and a Hyderabad Public School. The foundation stone would also be laid for a health varsity during his next tour, and a veterinary college, an agriculture college and tribal varsity would be set up by next year, he promised.
