Perhaps for the first time, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday announced that he would build a posh journalists' colony with spacious and modern two-bedroom houses for journalists free of cost in Warangal, and that Hyderabad journalists would get envious by seeing the latest facilities.
Talking to mediapersons in Warangal, the Chief Minister announced amidst wild applause that the government would bear the entire expenses for the journalists' housing facility, and that the scribes need not pay a rupee.
He also stated that he would be in-charge for the project to come up in 50 to 60 acres to accommodate some 600 to 1,000 journalists.
"I will lay the foundation stone in February and complete the construction of the journalists' housing colony in 11 months, and get them registered in the names of the wives of the scribes free of cost," he said.
To be built on a sprawling campus, the journalist colony would have modern facilities including wifi, a community hall, a market and a shopping complex.
KCR also vowed to provide similar journalist housing facilities in Hyderabad and other districts, too.
"Journalists' welfare is paramount for us, and they must cover the affairs of government developments completely," he said.
It is also pertinent to note here that KCR recently told mediapersons in Hyderabad that he would prefer to offer housing facilities in the prime localities of the city instead of on the outskirts.
KCR said that there were no big or small journalists, and that all of them would be treated equal.
Suggesting avoiding of multiple associations, the Chief Minister sought a single list of all the journalists who worked in the field - including writers, videographers, photographers, anchors and others.
