Parents, teachers and police personnel went into a tizzy at the
St. George's Boys' Grammar School at Abids after a hoax caller informed the management that a bomb was planted in the school's premises around 11am on Wednesday.
The anonymous call, made on the school's landline, prompted the management to immediately inform the police, who swung into action and notified the bomb squad.
The bomb squad arrived on the scene by 11:30am and began to herd the students to safety after asking them to let their bags remain in the classrooms.
By the time the bomb squad began to search the premises for explosives, news of the call began to spread, and worried parents rushed to the school to take their children away.
The bomb squad, meanwhile, made a thorough check of the school building and the playground. The security personnel even searched the school bags and the tiffin boxes of the students.
School principal Swamidas revealed that the bomb squad declared that the call was a hoax, at around 1pm. By this time, almost all students had been taken away by their worried parents.
Meanwhile, anxious parents also thronged the St. George's Girls' Grammar School. They were told that the 'bomb' was planted at the boys' school, but the parents still insisted on taking their wards home.
Principal M S Sujana allowed the parents to take their wards away, but also reassured them that they had nothing to be worried about.
