The Telangana High Court on Tuesday delivered a sensational verdict that the election of Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateswara Rao was invalid.
The court also gave a verdict that Jalagam Venkat Rao was the MLA of the constituency from December 12, 2018.
This judgement was given by Dr Justice Radha Rani on a petition filed by Jalagam Venkat Rao alleging that his opponent Vanama Venkateswara Rao had not given complete property details pertaining to his wife and himself in the Form 26 to the Election Commission.
According to K Ramesh, the advocate who represented Jalagam Venkat Rao, the High Court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Venkateswara Rao.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, Vanama Venkateswara Rao was elected as an MLA on a Congress ticket against BRS candidate Jalagam Venkat Rao by a margin of 4,120 votes. He later joined the BRS.
