In a shock to the ruling BRS, the Telangana High Court today cancelled the election of Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy as MLA of the Gadwal Assembly constituency in 2018 for submitting a false affidavit with the Election Commission of India, and declared his nearest rival D K Aruna, of the BJP, as the MLA of the constituency.
It also imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on Reddy for filing the false affidavit, and also asked him to pay Rs 50,000 to Aruna towards the cost of the case.
The HC delivered the verdict while responding to a petition filed by Aruna urging it to cancel the election of Reddy for filing a false affidavit.
The court passed the orders after four years of hearing.
While Krishna Mohan Reddy secured 1,00,415 votes in the 2018 Assembly elections, Aruna secured 72,155 votes and stood second.
