The Commissioner for Disaster Management, who put the death toll due to sunstroke on Saturday at 274 (since April 1st), on Sunday, confirmed 524 deaths due to the heat wave. It means that 250 people have lost their lives due to severe heat wave conditions in the last 24 hours.
Guntur was at the top of the casualty-list, with 95 deaths due to sunstroke followed by Prakasam (75), East Godavari (60), Adilabad (43), Karimnagar (43), Nalgonda (47), Khammam (26), Warangal (20), West Godavari (16), Nizamabad (16), Krishna (13), Medak (12), Mahaboobnagar (10), Vizianagaram (9), Chittoor (9), Anantapur (7), Srikakulam (7), Ranga Reddy (6), Kurnool (5), YSR Kadapa (4) and Visakhapatnam (1).
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department said that severe heat wave conditions prevailed over some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, and in some parts of Telangana as well.
The IMD warned that severe heat wave conditions would prevail in the districts of Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, East and West Godavari and Visakhapatnam of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours. (INN)
