The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on the bail petition of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in the disproportionate assets case, to December 19.
When the case came up for hearing on Monday, the CBI sought more time to submit its arguments. Following CBI's request, the court posted the next hearing on the bail petition on December 19.
It may be mentioned that earlier the Special CBI court had rejected two separate petitions seeking bail in the disproportionate assets case. While the first petition was filed as a statutory right under Section 167 (2) Cr PC, the second regular petition was filed under Section 437 of the CrPC.
The court had dismissed the statutory bail petition on November 28 while observing that granting bail at this stage of the pending investigation might affect the investigation and infringe the avowed purposal set out by the Supreme Court in its order.
After this, Jagan moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking bail on November 30.
Jagan is presently lodged in Chanchalguda Central Prison since his arrest on May 27. (INN)
