The Supreme Court has once again rejected the bail petition of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.
A division bench comprising Justice Sadasivam and Justice Iqbal agreed with the CBI contention that bail to Jagan at this stage would hamper the investigation.
The apex court opined that witnesses could be influenced if Jagan is given bail at this stage. It also said that public money was being looted through economic offences.
It asked the CBI to complete the investigation in 4 months, and told Jagan that he could reapply for bail in the trial court after the CBI finished filing its chargesheets.
Jagan had challenged the January order of the A P High Court rejecting bail to him, which the Supreme Court decided on today.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP said that it respected the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Party Honorary President Y S Vijayamma said that Supreme Court had found fault with the CBI's style of functioning in the coal scam.
"We are not finding fault with the judgement, but are only submitting that the CBI has been leveling baseless allegations against Y S Jaganmohan Reddy," she said.
The Congress and the TDP had conspired against Jagan, Vijayamma said, adding that Jagan had to face all this only because he had come out of the Congress. (INN)
