The TRS-led government on October 11 unveiled the reorganized version of Telangana's districts in a bid to improve administration at the grassroots.
Nearly two and a half years after the formation of Telangana, the TRS-led government today unveiled the reorganized version of Telangana's districts in a bid to ease and improve administration at the grassroots.
This has pushed the total number of districts in the State up to 31.
The inauguration of the districts began with KCR unveiling Siddipet at 11:13 am. After him, 20 other new districts were unveiled by his cabinet colleagues.
Telangana Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary inaugurated the Jayashankar district while Council Chairman K Swamy Goud launched the Jangaon district, both out of erstwhile Warangal.
Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari unveiled Warangal rural, another district carved out of Warangal.
Another Deputy CM Mohammed Mahmood Ali inaugurated the Jagtial district, cut out of the Karimnagar district.
Sixteen other districts inaugurated on October 12 were Medak, Mancherial, Vikarabad, Rajanna, Asifabad, Yadadri, Peddapally, Medchal (Malkajgiri), Kamareddy, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Kothagudem, Nirmal and Jogulamba.
Apart from adding districts, the government has also created 25 new revenue divisions, 125 new mandals, four new police commissionerates, 23 new police subdivisions, 91 police stations and 28 new circles.
The process continued till 12:30 pm in the afternoon.
To provide a recap of the process, the State government earlier planned on creating only 17 new districts, but decided to add four more - Sircilla, Gadwal, Jangaon and Wanaparthy - upon strong demands from various sections; pushing the count to 21. This was done after forming a review committee, which advised the CM to agree to the demands. However, several other demands for division received the committee's disapproval citing their infeasibility.
The inauguration of the districts went ahead despite the Opposition's allegations that it is being done unilaterally and in an "unscientific manner". However, several administrative and political experts have hailed the overall manner in which the process was conducted.
Several people across Telangana celebrated Dussehra as well as the reorganization of districts.
