As per reports, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will conduct a survey of stormwater drains and tanks in the city to determine the extent of encroachment under its limits.
As per a GHMC report, there are 102 main sewer lines of length 220 km under its limits in the Ranga Reddy district, and 71 main sewer lines of length 169 km under its limits in Hyderabad.
3,900 km long drains in the city will be surveyed, as per the report.
According to the earlier survey maps of the Kirloskar and other planning and engineering agencies, 28,800 unlawful constructions have been built on drains and tanks in the city. During the demolition drive, several of these encroachments have been destroyed.
Now that the demolition drive is in full swing, the GHMC wants to take a survey to check for more encroachments.
To prepare for the work, a training program has been launched in which the revenue, survey settlement, GHMC (engineering) and town planning officials are participating. GHMC Mayor B Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, Additional Commissioner Surendra Mohan, Telangana Remote and Space Application Wing Director Srinivas Reddy and others are also attending the program to give their feedback and to chalk out the survey plan.
