GHMC Starts Desilting Storm Drains In Hyderabad
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation took up storm-drain desilting works as part of a monsoon hazard prevention drive.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took up storm-drain desilting works as part of a monsoon hazard prevention drive, today.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, while inspecting the desilting works in Old City, said that lot of unauthorized buildings were coming up, encroaching drains, which in turn is causing silt, sedimentary rocks, and heaps of garbage to accumulate in them. "To prevent this, our body will remove the encroachments, desilt sewers and clear the accumulation, and seal the drains.
The Commissioner took umbrage over the officials for their alleged negligence, and gave clear directions to the engineering, town planning, and connected wings to take the onus and perform their duties in a flawlessly. He warned that the government would severely penalize them if they were found to be involved in irregularities in the desiltation works.
Janardhan Reddy said that since desiltation was a hazardous task, the GHMC would give complete health cover to those who would get injured during the works, and also pay ex-gratia to those who would die during the process.
