GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy has directed all the officials of GHMC to see that no digging up of roads happened after May 31, and that whatever roads were dug up for works taken up so far were restored by May 31.
With regard to works pertaining to water works, the roads need to restored by June 10, he said. (The HMWS&SB has taken up 1,164 km of digging, of which 864 km have been restored.)
The Commissioner told the officials that no permission for digging would be given after May 31 except in case of emergency works of HMWS&SB and other major government departments. In case of such instances, the Executive Engineers concerned needed to personally monitor the execution and restore the roads under personal supervision immediately, and on priority, he said.
The Commissioner said that the engineering officials must display boards at the site of the works which are being taken up duly furnishing the detailed information of the works' sanctioned time frames, and the phone numbers of the contractors and the officials concerned, for the convenience of the citizens.
The Commissioner also stated that the GHMC had identified 222 points vulnerable to water stagnation, of which 40 to 42 places had been given additional water draining capacity to drain out the stagnated water to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the monsoons.
Water stagnation happened even when there were no rains because of the lack of responsibility of the people who released water onto the main roads obstructing the free flow of traffic and damaging the road, he said. In this connection, the Commissioner directed officials to identify the people who were releasing water onto the main roads and damaging the roads, and duly penalized them.
