The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has spent Rs 64.65 lakhs for the beautification of the 11-kilometre stretch of the P V Narasimha Rao Expressway (the flyover from Mehdipatnam for quick travel to the Shamshabad airport).
Following a decision taken in January this year, the GHMC has placed 1,298 cement pots with 4 varieties (IT, Lanco, Square & Rectangular) on the expressway. These pots, which were procured during the COP-11 summit during the year 2012, and which were removed from the various corridors for the Metro Rail Project works, have been utilized on the PVNR Expressway.
Various varieties of bougainvillea have been planted in the pots to give an aesthetic look to the expressway. The Bougainvillea Formosa, Glabara, Sp Singh, Torch Glow, Thimma, Dr. Rao and Subra varieties have been planted.
Four 5,000-litre capacity Sintex water tanks have also been erected, and one borewell has been dug under the expressway for water supply to the flower pots through drip irrigation. (INN)
