The annual Ganesh immersion procession passed off peacefully in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad although hundreds of vehicles carrying the idols are still waiting for immersion at the Hussainsagar lake at the time of this article.
Nearly 30,000 idols of different sizes were immersed in the Hussain Sagar lake by 6pm.
Hundreds of idols were also immersed in lakes on the city's outskirts including the Saroornagar lake.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy told reporters that the immersion process is likely to be completed by Tuesday morning.
He said that the procession had passed off peacefully in almost all the areas.
He added that the elaborate arrangements and vigilance would continue till all people returned home after the immersion.
Meanwhile, arrangements are in full swing for the Shobha Yatra of the city's and perhaps teh country's tallest Ganesh idol, the 60-feet likeness at Khairatabad.
The Shobha Yatra is likely to begin after 11pm, and the idol is likely to be immersed before Tuesday noon. (INN)
