The Khairatabad Maha Ganapati, considered the most prominent Ganesh idol in Hyderabad, was immersed in the Hussain Sagar today as part of the grand Ganesh immersion celebrations.
The event was conducted with elaborate arrangements to ensure safety and smooth proceedings.
The procession started at 7:30 am, with the idol making its way to the Tank Bund via the Telugu Talli flyover and the Secretariat.
The 69-foot idol was immersed using crane number 4 on NTR Marg at 1:45 pm following the final prayer ceremony. With devotees chanting "Jai Bolo Ganesh Maharaj ki Jai", the idol was gently lowered into the water.
During the immersion, the areas surrounding the Tank Bund were bustling with devotees.
The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee conveyed its sincere appreciation to the Hyderabad police, the State government, the GHMC staff, and other government authorities for their cooperation and assistance in ensuring a successful immersion.
This year too, as always, the Khairatabad Ganesh attracted considerable attention both locally and nationally. Lakhs of devotees and visitors flocked during the 11 days to pay their respects to the deity.
In addition to the Khairatabad Ganesh, nearly 200,000 Ganesh idols were immersed today. Over 50,000 police personnel were deployed to manage the immersions, and there were many large cranes at the Tank Bund.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand announced that security and traffic management efforts had been significantly enhanced in anticipation of what was likely to be one of the largest immersion events in the country.
