In two separate but equally trajic incidents, six people - of whom four were children- drowned in Srikakulam and Medak districts in Andhra Pradesh, said the police.
According to information from the police, Pyla Divya - aged 7, her sister Pyla Alekhya - aged 5, and another 7-year-old boy named B H Sundara Rao drowned near a check dam in a village called Jarjam in the Srikakulam district, when they went into the canal to take a bath, at around 10 AM.
In an unrelated incident in the village of Chidruppa in Medak district, a 13-year-old girl and two other women drowned trying to save each other. 3-year-old Jaswant lost his balance and fell into a water tank. His 13-year-old cousin jumped in to rescue him and even got him out of the water, but couldn't get out of the tank herself.
On seeing that, 45-year-old Chandrakala and 65-year-old Laxmamma entered the tank to try and save the girl. However, all three of them died in the process, the Sangareddy Rural police informed.
