English medium instruction will be introduced up to class VIII to start with.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy today announced that the English medium instruction would be introduced in government schools from the next academic year across Telangana.
English medium instruction would be introduced up to class VIII to start with, and training classes for the teachers in this regard had already been conducted, she said.
The announcement was made after the cabinet sub-committee to implement and monitor the Mana Ooru Mana Badi program aimed at providing basic amenities and the required infrastructure in government schools, and headed by Reddy, held a meeting with the officials concerned and discussed the implementation of the program.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had constituted the cabinet sub-committee. Under the program, the State government will be developing 26,000 government schools across the State with an outlay of Rs. 7,289.54 crore in three phases.
In the meeting today, the sub-committee discussed the enhancement of basic amenities, digital education, and English medium instruction and its related issues in the government schools.
Other members of the committee, including IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Excise Minister Srinivas Goud, Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod and Telangana Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Boinapalli Vinod were present.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that in the first phase over 9,000 schools would be developed by providing 12 different facilities, and that the State government had earmarked about Rs 3,497 crore for the phase.
The minister said that as the summer holidays had begun and all schools were closed, the renovation and other development works would be taken up immediately, and would be completed in by June 12.
The minister also said that all the district Collectors had been directed to monitor the works from time to time, and that all ministers and MLAs too had been asked to supervise the works in their respective areas to ensure that they were completed in the specified period.
She also said that the "Badi Baata" program would be held from June 1 to 12, and that schools would be reopened from June 12.
Meanwhile, the education department will conduct meetings of teachers and parents to take suggestions to strengthen the government schools.
