Telangana Minister for Education Sabitha Indra Reddy today announced that the State government would distribute notebooks and workbooks free of cost to all the students who were studying in the government-run schools, in the upcoming academic year.
Reddy held a review meeting with the officials concerned at her chamber in the new Secretariat, and discussed the various important issues for the preparation for the upcoming year.
Speaking on the occasion, she directed the officials to ensure that the books were handed over to the students by the time that the schools reopened, on June 12.
Workbooks will be given to primary school students, and notebooks will be given to high school students.
The State government is spending Rs 200 crore for the distribution of books to students this academic year as against Rs 150 crore last year.
With this fresh decision, about 24 lakh students in Telangana will benefit.
Two pairs of uniform would also be given to all the students by the commencement of schools, Reddy said.
The minister said that the Telangana government was taking various measures to strengthen the education system in the State, and that this was just the latest in a series of initiatives to be rolled out.
