BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao today said that the Gurukul education system had reached a deplorable state under the Congress rule.
The BRS leader alleged that the Gurukul education system, which he claimed was a model during former CM K Chandrashekar Rao's tenure, had become a disaster under Revanth Reddy's rule.
He said that KCR had increased the number of Gurukuls from 294 to 1,024 and provided quality education by expanding student enrollment from 1.9 lakh to 6.5 lakh. He added that KCR viewed education expenditure as a capital investment, and gave top priority to the Gurukuls.
However, the reputation of the Gurukuls had hit rock bottom during the 22 months of the Congress government's rule, KTR said. He claimed that many Gurukul students were losing their lives in hospitals due to toxic fever, snake bites, rat bites, dog bites and food poisoning. He also claimed that the 2,500 contract and outsourced staff working in the Gurukuls had not been paid for the past two months.
He also claimed that the Chief Minister's own promises, including to personally supervise the Gurukuls, had turned out to be empty words, and also that the CM's statement "if the Gurukul officials serve adulterated food, they will go to jail" had proved to be meaningless.
KTR urged the Chief Minister to open his eyes and focus on the Gurukul education system, which had been "neglected" for too long, and asked the CM to start by ensuring the timely payment of salaries instead of making grand announcements on Teachers' Day.
