In a shocking incident, a habitual drunkard hacked his mother and younger brother to death after the mother told him to either leave her house or quit alcohol. The crime took place in Chellapur village, Doulatabad mandal, in Mahabubnagar district.
According to Sub-Inspector Hanumanth Goud, Mala Shivamma (45) was so vexed with her eldest son Vivek's (24) drinking, waywardness and unemployment, that she told him to leave her house, on Tuesday night.
Vivek did leave the house, only to return intoxicated, armed with an axe, and with the false bravado that alcohol can induce.
He used the axe to attack his sleeping mother. She died on the spot. Vivek's youngest brother Venkatesh woke up, meanwhile, and tried to escape the intoxicated fury. But before he could get away, Vivek managed to inflict wounds on his head. Vivek's other brother, Srinivas, had gone to visit his uncle for the night, and this may have saved him, police say.
Neighbours alerted the police, who rushed to the spot along with a 108 ambulance. Venkatesh died of his injuries while on the way to hospital. He was 14.
Police have taken Vivek under arrest, and registered a case under Section 302 IPC against him. Further investigations are on.
